PS1 Gerard Byrne, Mark Orange

Gerard Byrne and Mark Orange, both recipients of the 1997/1998 P.S.1 Scholarship, New York. Gerard Byrne presented large photographic prints of nocturnal interior urban spaces. In addition to four prints the installation included a short audio drama made in collaboration with Sarah Pierce, with slapstick events one imagines could take place in the spaces of the photographs. Mark Orange, presented a video work entitled ‘The Morning After’ reconstructing the tale of an Irish man as he negotiates New York Circa 1976. Raising questions of the subtle and oblivious ways in which we express our emotional attachment to our environment.
